How To Care For New Hydroseeding
- A proper watering program is very important!
- If possible, stay off the new seedlings for at least 3 weeks.
- Mow your lawn as soon as your grass needs to be cut.
- Fertilize (with a balanced, organic fertilizer) the newly seeded area after the first mowing.
Watering
- Water the new seed 2- 3 times a day for 10-15 minutes at a time for the first 3 weeks.
- Once grass is 1 inch high, cut back watering to 2 inches of water per week.
- When grass reaches 3 to 3 1/2 inches tall, cut the grass to 3 inches and fertilize with an organic, balanced fertilizer. Cutting the grass at this height reduces weed growth.
- Continue watering 2 inches per week if temperatures are above 80 degrees.
- Water 1 inch per week if temperatures are cooler.
- Pay attention to areas with full sun and slopes since these will dry out quickly.
- Test water level by poking a screwdriver into a green and brown spot. If the brown spot is more difficult to push, then you know it needs more water.
Maintenance Tips
- Maintain grass height at 3 inches.
- Fertilize every 4-6 weeks with organic fertilizer and/or compost tea for the remainder of the growing season.
